Compassionate

Our school is not just a place for your child to spend their days, it’s an extended family that encompasses more than just the school day. We are a community who cares for one another, and an institution that strives to meet the individual needs of each family.

In collaboration with the Ascension Home & School Association, students in grades PreK-4 through 8 participate in our “Buddy” program. Throughout the year, older students mentor children in younger grades through social and academic activities. The ‘“Buddy” program gives students in the upper grades the opportunity to recognize their position as role models, and gives primary and early childhood students an insight into the years ahead.

The safety and well being of our students is our top priority. All Ascension students and faculty participate in the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP). OBPP is a whole-school program that has been proven to prevent and reduce bullying throughout a school setting, and is designed to improve peer relations and make schools safer, more positive places for students to learn and develop.

Ascension offers a wonderful Extended Day Program providing high quality before and after school care at a reasonable price for any registered Ascension student. Along with professional care, students are provided with time for free play outside and in the gym, homework assistance, arts and crafts and enrichment opportunities. The children in Extended Day, and the adults who supervise, are a special community within our school.
Extended Day is offered before school from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, and after school from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

We understand that children learn and develop in different ways, and we strive to support their needs to the best of our ability. Our team of Student Support Services specialists work as a team with students, teachers and parents or guardians to help every child succeed. Our Student Services Team includes a Learning Behavioral Specialist, Speech Therapist, and Reading Specialist that collaborate with Oak Park District 97 for evaluations and recommendations. Our goal is to collaborate with parents and guardians to ensure all students reach their full potential.
