Tax Credit Scholarship Program/Empower

The Tax Credit Scholarship Program created by the Illinois Invest in Kids Act expired on January 1,2024.  In the last year of the program, 2023-24 school year, 52 Ascension students received scholarships totaling over $325,000.00.

The Illinois General Assembly’s failure to promote equity in school choice by renewing this program is more than disappointing–it is an injustice to families and children. Moreover,  the Catholic school system lightens the financial burden of public education on the State of Illinois far more than the meager benefit accorded by the state under the program.

Notwithstanding the loss of funding, Ascension School remains committed to providing high quality, Catholic education to all those who seek it, not just those who can afford it. 

The Teaching the Children Scholarship Fund and other local scholarships are helping to offset the loss.  Any donation to these funds will directly benefit the students of Ascension School.  Click here to donate.
